Schaller Automation launches intelligent marine engine monitoring system, Bearomos\u00ae2020<\/a><\/h3>\n
Schaller Automation, the market-leading supplier of oil mist detection systems on large diesel, gas and dual-fuel engines, is launching a new sensor to monitor the condition of slide bearings.<\/div>\n
Schaller Automation has been developing, producing and selling oil mist detection systems for the past 50 years. More than 58,000 engines on ships and power stations have been successfully protected.<\/div>\n

Schaller Automation\u00a0are experts on oil mist formation inside crankcases and analysing its source in order to propose a technical solution to the market.<\/p>\n

Schaller Automation developed Bearomos\u00ae<\/strong>2020<\/a> in cooperation with the RWTH Aachen University (Germany) within a public funded project financed by the ZIM programme (\u201cCentral Innovation Programme for small and medium-sized enterprises\u201d) to detect the beginning of a lubrication failure far earlier than conventional sensors such as bearing temperature sensors.<\/p>\n

Every second counts when it comes to safeguarding the engine crankshaft\u2019s main bearings at the moment of a bearing failure. Bearomos\u00ae<\/strong>2020 can detect the very first metal-to-metal contact, even before mechanical damage has occurred, avoiding expensive crankshaft damage or engine downtime.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Bearomos\u00ae<\/strong>2020 system\u2019s software provides the operator with live signals and information about the monitored bearings. Together with the shaft speed, also given by the sensor, it is possible to make a statement about how the bearing is running: liquid friction or mixed friction.<\/p>\n

The beginning of a friction problem within an oil-lubricated slide bearing always comes along with the bearing\u2019s regular change from liquid into mixed friction. The system is ideal for being retrofitted to existing engines as a single sensor is enough to monitor the entire line of crankshaft main bearings.<\/p>\n

By installing Bearomos\u00ae2020 onboard passenger ships, Schaller contributes to the preventative and predictive maintenance services for engines and any machine equipped with journal bearings.<\/p>\n
